i just love it! its perfect
garbage. convoluted interface and operation. i rebooted and let it do its thing, and it presented me with a dire message that was cut off so i couldn't even read the whole thing. the only option was to "fix it", but it didn't give me a clue what the hell that would actually do, so of course i didn't trust it.
most of the negative comments don't even understand what the .net framework does. 1.) you don't need the framework unless you use programs written against it. i would just wait until you actually need one of these programs to use it.2.) the framework doesn't eat up any resources other than disk space. it's only used when a program uses it and only the libraries needed are used. it does not affect system performance when not in use except for disk space.3.) .net (and java) are not for lazy programmers, it's for programmers that don't want to recreate the wheel over and over. why use low level api's to access tcp/ip functions when you can use a cleanly written wrapper in minimal lines of code. further, it's not a dead language framework, it's very much alive and in use (as is java).4.) the file size requirements are large, but those requirements are only because of the installation, when all of the temp files are deleted after the install it takes far less than the install requirement states.5.) the only versions of the framework you need are the ones that you have programs that run against them. frankly, i wouldn't install any of them until i needed to. why store 1.1 when it's not needed?that said, the install is slow. :p
good idea, bad execution:1. does not install/uninstall/re-install cleanly - can foul up its own settings: end result is errors in previewing indexed search hits2. unreliable indexing on a huge number of files / multiple filters (ms only): resets the index to zero and starts indexing again from scratch3. all search functions disabled while indexing is in progress (cf. above)4. arbitrary / not user-selectable file size limit on files to be indexed (e.g. cannot index big pdf files)5. does not support various file types properly for full contents indexing (e.g. djvu)6. several usability quirks that only ms can manage - too long list to be detailed here, but one of the most important is that there are almost no user selectable settings to configure anything - just locations and file typesvery unreliable - not ready for prime time.will try again with search 5.0 to see if the bugs are fixed.
all new features stolen from open source projects like gimp. and you get to pay 00 bucks for 2% new code, 98% of the code is identical to the last 10 versions.thanks adobe, but no thanks.
totally cool. this is for geeks, not for morons. go whine somewhere else.
should you choose another operating system, you should better try free windows. the distribution disk is rather cheap (i dont remember exactly, but approx. 22-25 $), software is free. http://free-windows.com
several years back i thought this was the best tagging app around. but it fails to address my single biggest issue: setting "album artist" tags, and despite numerous requests in his forums, the developer steadfastly ignores the issue.add to that the sloppiness of the code, such as incorrect data placed in the windows installer database (claiming to be a generic "mfc application"), and i get the impression that the application does what the developer needs it for, and he's not really interested in developing any further.since my needs and his have diverged, so goes my rating of the application.
