very goog idea!
i find this app very useful, it is light and does the trick.i like it when developers keep it simple. bottom line:recommended
someone please start linking to the full 30mb+ download instead of the tiny downloader. some other sites link to the full version.
1019 is performing better than 1018 to be sure, with no crashes when dragging and dropping to the joblist, but 1016 is still working faster and it seems better.but it does appear 1019 is getting back on track.historically, i'm one of this apps biggest fans - it just veered off course a bit over time is all. until and unless this app gets to be as good as 1016, i can't grade it higher.
this is a nice bulk file optimzier tool, it really does slim down and optimize files. however it has 2 critical flaws which needs to be fixed. things that could be improved:1.) the default setting is to remove metadata info. so for example on jpg files, the program strips out critical pieces of exif data from jpg files:exif-camera (date picture was taken)exif-origin (camera f-stop/exposure/iso)this is critical because if you want to rename your jpg files based on "date taken", it's stripped out and won't work.under "options" there is a checkbox "copy metadata". i recommend you enable it for all applicable file extensions. this really should be enabled by default.2.) there is no "abort" or "pause" button. you have to close out of the program to cancel operations. understandable as it uses multiple command line operations/plugins, but it'd be nice if it was possible to abort.other considerations:pdf/png/exe compression compression is slow, especially on dual core systems (ymmv) sometimes not worth the effort considering most pdf/png/exe files won't compress much further.keep in mind during processing, the program places originals in your recycle bin. so if you process 1 gb of data, it takes up 2gb of space (until you empty recycle bin)in some cases exe files also do self integrity checks on itself and related dll files. some cases it fails to run after compression. one example is winwgetportable, which failed nsis self integrity check after compression of both exe and dll files.tests:on a sample jpg photo created from a canon eos 60d (18 megapixels) it shrunk down the file size from 5.95 mb to 5.88 mb with no difference in picture quality, even zoomed up close. true to it's stated "lossless" description.on a sample pdf file, by default it downconverts to 150dpi, so images inside will slightly change when viewed close. setting to "prepress 300dpi" should make it virtually exact.conclusion:good program for squeezing every last drop of space from files, just make sure to backup first, exclude certain program directories, enable "copy metadata" for all extensions, enable "keep file attributes", and change pdf dpi to "prepress 300" under program options.
easy to install and caused 0 errors on my system. this is a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit.
i also had trouble with v1.7. the icon overlays used for the shell do not function, or at least wouldn't for me. i tried various things to get them working, but then just gave up with it, as i have no need for the updates v1.7 offers at this time. i went back to v1.6 and have been afraid to try a new v1.7 build since. there are no critical issues with v1.6, so i'll try v1.7 again maybe one day when if i'm bored. still, i'll rate it a 4, as i'm sure this flaw will be corrected, if it hasn't been already. i still have a *feeling* that perhaps v1.7 is still not quite as stable as the v1.6 code base was.
lots of problems with avg free 9.0698a1730! on four machines and all have started to run _very_ slowly and the main hard drives are constantly running? reverted to free 8.5 and all is well now!solutions??
beware! : this new gom player ver. 188.8.131.5206 proposes in a very sneaky manner to install ask tool-bar. beware !i like and use this player, one minus for the crap associated to it.
